A meta-analysis of randomized trials indicates that collagen peptide supplementation, especially when combined with vitamin D and calcium, significantly increases BMD in the femoral neck and spine. This combination also enhances bone turnover indicators (standardized mean differences 0.40-0.58) and muscle performance (standardized mean difference 0.60 [0.05, 1.15]) [1]. A randomized prospective study involving 51 postmenopausal women with osteopenia found that a 3-month supplementation of collagen peptides, calcium lactate (equivalent to 500 mg elemental calcium), and vitamin D3 (400 IU) significantly decreased bone formation marker P1NP levels by 13.1% and bone resorption marker CTX levels by 11.4%, suggesting a reduction in increased bone turnover [6]. Similarly, a randomized controlled trial with 30 postmenopausal women over 60 years showed a decrease in procollagen type I N-propeptide level from 61.3±14.7 to 53.0±14.1 (p<0.001) after 3 months in the group receiving bioactive collagen peptide with calcium lactate and vitamin D3 [7].
