Adequate nutritional status is essential for maintaining physical performance, cognitive function, immune health, and overall vitality. Nutritional supplementation may help optimise these physiological processes, particularly when dietary intake is insufficient [7][8].

The Energy¹ Plus Card combines vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin B6, vitamin D3, beta-carotene, biotin, selenium, magnesium, taurine, Vaccinium myrtillus (bilberry) extract, citrus bioflavonoids, Viola tricolor extract, grape seed extract, pine bark extract, and coenzyme Q10. This report reviews the scientific evidence supporting the potential contribution of these ingredients to energy metabolism, cardiovascular health, immune function, and overall well-being.

Energy Metabolism and Overall Well-being

Several clinical studies have investigated the effects of multivitamin and multimineral supplementation on perceived energy levels, cognitive performance, and general health.

A pilot clinical trial involving 16 participants evaluated a multivitamin, multimineral, herbal, and essential oil-infused supplement over two months. Supplementation resulted in improvements in several biochemical markers, including:

  • increased HDL cholesterol,
  • improved LDL/HDL ratio,
  • reduced fasting insulin,
  • reduced homocysteine,
  • increased serum vitamin E,
  • increased EPA concentrations, and
  • an improved arachidonic acid (AA)/EPA ratio.

Participants also reported improvements in mental clarity, energy levels, motivation, together with reductions in pain and anxiety [4].

Similar findings were reported in a retrospective health survey, where 82.4% of participants indicated improved energy levels and stamina following daily multivitamin and multimineral supplementation. Furthermore, 67.0% reported improvements in cognitive function and mental performance [2].

A real-world survey of healthcare professionals found widespread agreement regarding the benefits of multivitamin-multimineral supplementation. Approximately 98% of healthcare professionals reported that these supplements help reduce fatigue and improve energy within two to three weeks, while 87.6% observed improvements in mental alertness, stress management, and cognitive performance among their patients [3].

Additional evidence from a cross-sectional study involving 400 adults aged 35–60 years in Taiwan demonstrated that 93% of supplement users perceived improvements in at least one aspect of youthful vitality. Among participants, 59.0% reported increased energy support and 59.8% perceived improvements in metabolic function [1].

A review of 60 scientific publications evaluating nutrient therapies for fatigue found that 50 studies reported significant beneficial effects of vitamin and mineral supplementation. Ingredients with the strongest evidence included coenzyme Q10, L-carnitine, zinc, vitamin C, vitamin D, and B vitamins [7].

A separate narrative review highlighted the central role of B vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B8, B9 and B12), vitamin C, iron, magnesium, and zinc in energy-yielding metabolism, DNA synthesis, oxygen transport, neurotransmitter production, and normal neurological function. These physiological roles may contribute to reduced physical and mental fatigue when nutrient requirements are adequately met [8].

Cardiovascular Health and Immune Function

Several ingredients included in the Energy¹ Plus Card have also been investigated for their contribution to cardiovascular health and immune function.

A comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis including 884 randomized controlled trials involving 883,627 participants evaluated the effects of multiple micronutrient interventions on cardiovascular disease risk.

The analysis found moderate- to high-quality evidence supporting several nutrients, including omega-3 fatty acids, folic acid, magnesium, zinc, vitamin D, coenzyme Q10, alpha-lipoic acid, curcumin, flavanols, catechins, melatonin, genistein, and quercetin [5].

Among the most notable findings were:

  • Omega-3 fatty acids reduced cardiovascular disease mortality (RR: 0.93), myocardial infarction (RR: 0.85), and coronary heart disease events (RR: 0.86).
  • Folic acid reduced stroke risk (RR: 0.84).
  • Coenzyme Q10 reduced all-cause mortality (RR: 0.68) [5].

Conversely, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, and selenium did not demonstrate significant reductions in cardiovascular disease or type 2 diabetes risk within this analysis, while beta-carotene supplementation was associated with modest increases in all-cause mortality, cardiovascular mortality, and stroke risk [5].

A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involving 120 healthy adults aged 40–70 years investigated a multivitamin, multimineral, and phytonutrient formulation over 56 days. Supplementation significantly increased circulating concentrations of quercetin, vitamin C, and red blood cell folate, while helping maintain vitamin B6 and vitamin B12 status. Participants also demonstrated reductions in homocysteine and gamma-glutamyl transferase, both biomarkers associated with cardiovascular health [9].

Micronutrients including vitamins A, C, D, E, B6 and B12, folate, zinc, iron, copper, and selenium play essential and complementary roles throughout the immune response. Scientific evidence suggests that supplementation with multiple immune-supporting micronutrients may help optimise immune function and reduce the risk of infection, with the strongest evidence available for vitamin C, vitamin D, and zinc [10].

Limitations and Considerations

Although many studies report improvements in perceived energy, fatigue, and overall well-being following multivitamin and multimineral supplementation, important limitations should be considered.

Current clinical guidelines for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS/ME) conclude that there is insufficient experimental evidence to support routine supplementation with multivitamins, vitamin B12, vitamin C, coenzyme Q10, magnesium, or NADH as a treatment for fatigue associated with this condition [6].

Furthermore, while several ingredients included in the Energy¹ Plus Card have individually demonstrated beneficial physiological effects, the complete combination of Vaccinium myrtillus extract, citrus bioflavonoids, Viola tricolor, grape seed extract, pine bark extract, taurine, coenzyme Q10, vitamins, and minerals has not been directly evaluated in clinical studies as a single nutritional formulation. Consequently, the available evidence primarily reflects the effects of the individual ingredients or broader multivitamin and multimineral formulations.

Conclusion

The available scientific literature supports the potential contribution of several ingredients included in the Energy¹ Plus Card to energy metabolism, cardiovascular health, immune function, and overall well-being.

Multivitamin and multimineral supplementation has consistently been associated with improvements in perceived energy, mental clarity, cognitive performance, and quality of life across multiple clinical studies. Nutrients such as B vitamins, vitamin C, magnesium, selenium, and coenzyme Q10 play well-established physiological roles in normal energy-yielding metabolism, mitochondrial function, oxygen transport, and nervous system function [4][7][8].

In addition, coenzyme Q10, folic acid, and omega-3 fatty acids have demonstrated favourable effects on cardiovascular outcomes, including reductions in all-cause mortality and cardiovascular disease risk factors [5]. A broad range of vitamins and minerals—including vitamins A, C, D, E, B vitamins, zinc, selenium, iron, and copper—also contribute to the normal functioning of the immune system and may help support immune resilience when nutritional requirements are met [10].

Although current clinical guidelines do not recommend routine vitamin or mineral supplementation for the treatment of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS/ME) because of insufficient experimental evidence [6], numerous studies in generally healthy adults have reported improvements in perceived energy, vitality, and overall well-being following multivitamin and multimineral supplementation.

While the complete combination of ingredients contained in the Energy¹ Plus Card has not been directly investigated as a single formulation, the available evidence for its individual ingredients suggests complementary roles in supporting normal energy metabolism, cardiovascular function, immune health, and overall vitality.
